Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Driver: 3 Quick Things

Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Driver: 3 Quick Things

The new Callaway Fusion Driver has offficially landed and the good news is that it is a really solid club.  It’s also pretty cool looking with the carbon inserts and the design is different enough that Callaway has definitely set up the Big Bertha Fusion Driver to hold a unique space in the market.

You may or may not know it, but Callaway has a team of actual aerospace engineers that help them design their golf clubs.  They actually partnered with Boeing (yes, those same guys who make the planes you fly in) a few years ago to engineer clubs that move faster than anything else on the market.  Because they have a bunch of nerds working in their nerd labs out in California, they also throw out a lot of terms like “revolutionary titanium Exo-Cage” and “ultralight triaxial carbon crown.  Whether they are talking about some Star Trek technology or driver, tech, I’m not entirely sure, but it sounds pretty good.

To get down to brass tacks, the Callaway Fusion Driver is excellent for a number of reasons and definitely worth a look if you want your drives to go farther and end up in the fairway more often.  Here are Three Quick Things about the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Driver:

1. It’s Massively Forgiving

Those ultra-techy things I mentioned above actually allow Callaway club engineers to do some very cool things.  To explain it very simply, these metals allow for substantially more weight to be positioned in the perimeter and far back from the face.  This makes the club much more solid and helps you avoid the torque and twisting that accompanies those big, booming drives.

What this means for you: You’re going to end up with a whole lot more drives in the fairway and your miss-hits are going to be a lot closer to where you are aiming.

2. It’s Very Very Fast

The ultimate job of an aerospace engineer is to figure out how to make things fly through the air with as little resistance as possible.  That’s probably why the group of Callaway engineers were able to create a driver that is wicked-fast.  The Big Bertha Fusion Driver features a unique streamlined head shape and utilizes Callaway’s proprietary Speed Step technology to help you swing the driver a whole lot faster.

What this means for you: Faster clubhead speeds = more distance off the tee.  And more distance means that you’re going to be out-driving your buddies a whole lot more often.

3. It’s Got a Funky Shape

I’m just going to say it – the head design for the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion driver is funky.  It actually looks a little like it’s already moving through the air and has been stretched out on the back end.  In reality, there are some very solid reasons for this unique design.  That “techy” thing I mentioned earlier – the triaxial carbon Exo-Cage allowed Callaway to break free from traditional club design.  This new setup combines fast aerodynamics with a very high MOI giving you more distance.  The new metals also allowed Callaway to do some acoustic engineering and this driver sounds fantastic at impact.

What this means for you: The new head design of the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion is actually faster and has been engineered to sound better than previous driverws.  You’re going to get more distance and more confidence off the tee – both things that will help you enjoy your round a whole lot more.
