Summer is officially in full swing. The grills are hot, the golf courses are packed, and your game is trending in the right direction (with a breakfast ball and occasional mulligan).
Let's get into this month's Breakfast Balls...
3 THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT
1. The Most Underrated Fitting in Golf...Your Grips
I bet you weren't fit for your golf grips.
Think about it...your grips are the one thing you touch on every single shot. Yet for most golfers, grip selection goes something like this:
"Whatever came on the clubs is probably fine."
Wrong answer. The right grip impacts much more than comfort. It influences confidence (which is a pretty big deal in golf), ball flight, shot dispersion, and even distance.
A proper grip fitting isn't simply asking, "How does that feel?" It includes:
- Measuring your hands
- Evaluating grip size
- Discussing your typical ball flight
- Considering physical limitations
- Understanding where and how often you play
- Trying different grip materials and textures
Our Master Fitters have been talking about this all season because world-class club fittings don't stop at shafts and heads. They include grips.
Your hands deserve better than whatever happened to come in the box.
2. "You're Not Good Enough to Get Fit."
Now that I've got your attention...This might be the biggest myth in golf.
The truth? The higher the handicap...the bigger the gains we often see from a proper fitting. Even brand-new golfers benefit from getting fit.
A fitting helps determine:
- The right club model
- Proper shaft length
- Correct shaft flex
- The best golf ball for your game
Sure, some adjustments—like precise lie angles—become more important as your swing becomes more consistent. But everything else? It matters from Day One.
Custom fitting isn't a luxury reserved for scratch golfers. It's one of the fastest ways for any golfer to play better and enjoy the game more.
In fact... We'll probably save the 30-handicapper more strokes than the scratch player. 😉
3. Golf Shoes Are Considered Equipment
Seriously.
Golf shoes have officially graduated from "apparel" to "equipment." Companies like Puma are talking about energy return. Others discuss ground reaction force. That's a fancy way of saying...
Your shoes can help you create more stability, generate more speed, and produce more consistent swings.
Who would've thought your ball speed depended on your kicks? Your feet are your connection to the ground, and the ground is where every powerful golf swing starts.
If your shoes don't fit properly, neither does your swing.
So yes...Maybe it's time to get fit for shoes too. You'll look better. You'll feel better. And you might even hit it farther.
Not a bad combination.
2 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. The Open Championship Returns to Royal Birkdale
The Open Championship heads back to historic Royal Birkdale this month—one of golf's greatest championship venues. This marks the 11th time the course has hosted The Open, trailing only St. Andrews.
One of golf's most unforgettable moments also happened here.
During the 1969 Ryder Cup, Jack Nicklaus famously conceded a difficult two-foot putt to Tony Jacklin on the final hole, creating the first-ever tied Ryder Cup. It's still considered one of the greatest displays of sportsmanship our game has ever seen.
Golf has always been bigger than winning.
2. Scottie Scheffler: The Second-Place King?
Talk about a "slump."
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has already finished second four different times in 2026. Most players would love that season.
It also puts him in some pretty good company. Jack Nicklaus finished runner-up 58 times during his PGA Tour career. He also finished second in major championships 19 times. Not a bad list to be on.
If this is a Scottie slump...It's a pretty enviable one.
1 MISSION MOMENT
Our mission has always been simple: Help golfers play better and have more fun.
Every golfer. Every skill level. Every background.
Recently, that mission took on a special meaning when Ryan Potts, one of our Master Club Fitters, had the opportunity to help Matt—a passionate golfer who refused to let a life-changing injury keep him away from the game he loves.
After becoming paraplegic, Matt was determined to get back on the golf course. Through the support of Jena Munson, a Recreation Therapist at CHI Health Immanuel Rehabilitation Institute, he began exploring adaptive golf and the equipment that could make playing possible again.
Ryan met Matt at the driving range, bringing demo clubs and working through a fitting in Matt's unique playing position using a specialized standing chair attached to a single-rider golf cart. Together with PING, Ryan built a custom set of clubs bent 5° flat, allowing Matt to make consistent contact and swing with confidence from his adaptive setup.

But this story isn't really about golf clubs.
It's about determination.
It's about refusing to give up something you love.
It's about the people and organizations who come together to remove barriers instead of accepting them.
Today, Matt is back on the course doing what he loves most—playing golf with his family and friends.
Watching that happen is a reminder of why we do what we do.
Golf has an incredible way of bringing people together, creating memories, and challenging us to become better. Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience that, and we're grateful to have played a small part in Matt's journey.
To Matt, thank you for inspiring all of us. And to Jena, PING, Eagle Hills Golf Course, and everyone who helped make this possible—thank you for showing what's possible when a community comes together around the game we all love.
That's it for July.
Now get out there...Play some golf. Wear an obnoxiously loud golf shirt. Fix your ball marks.
And every once in a while...
Give your buddy that two-footer.
See you on the first tee.
